TIGRIS - Thermospheric and Ionospheric Global and Regional Imaging System

Satellite TIGRIS is a proposed mission to investigate the extremes of ionospheric-thermospheric space weather critical to the goals of NASA's Living With a Star Geospace Program. TIGRIS focuses on new discoveries of massive increases of ionospheric plasma along with sharp gradients and irregularities over the mid-latitude ionosphere that impact GPS users, such as the Federal Aviation Administration, who are concerned with the operational availability of life-critical navigation systems.

TIGRIS will image the ionosphere and thermosphere continuously from geostationary earth orbit at multiple spatial scales, cadences, and wavelengths. TIGRIS will, for the first time, image the dayside ionosphere.

TIGRIS consists of two instruments:

Praxis provided mechanical and electrical design engineering for the RSI; overall program planning, scheduling, and budgeting; and publications and graphics support.
