FIREBALL - Fast Imaging Response for Energetic Burst and Afterglow Locations

Proposal CoverThe proposed FIREBALL mission provided a complement of four instruments designed to realize three critical Gamma-ray bursts (GRB) observing objectives:

  • Acquiring a large sample of burst events with broad band spectroscopy through increased burst sensitivity and wide field of view,
  • Rapid notification to ground observer network of arc minute burst positions, and
  • Autonomous slewing to burst position for arc second positioning in soft X-rays, permitting rapid ground notification of arc second positions, and follow-on observations of the burst afterglow.

A further important objective was the acquisition of a sky survey in hard X-rays, executed simultaneously with the burst searches.

Praxis provided decision support, program planning, multimedia design, and document management services for FIREBALL.
