Description: Praxis, Inc., a leading-edge technology company providing

industry, is searching for a Spacecraft Mechanical Lead
Engineer to work at the Naval Research Laboratory in
Washington DC.

Responsibilities:
Work as the lead mechanical engineer on a complex
satellite design program for the Naval Research
Laboratory. Specific responsibilities include, but are not
limited to, the following:
• Develop all detailed mechanical design and interface
specifications based on overall system requirements
• Guide the efforts of structural and mechanisms engineers
responsible for layout, design, stress analysis, thermal
design, and mechanisms
• Report on cost and schedule of all mechanical and
thermal elements of the space vehicle design to the
government program manager
• Brief senior government managers at design reviews and
project management reviews

Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering
and 20 years aerospace mechanical design experience, or
master’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and
10 years aerospace mechanical design experience.
• Prior experience as the lead mechanical engineer for
space vehicles and extensive experience with all levels of
aerospace vehicle mechanical design. Expertise in one or
more 3-D design tools (Unigraphics preferred); familiarity
with finite element design tools for thermal and stress
analysis of space vehicles.
• Experience using Unigraphics, NASTRAN, Thermal desktop
and similar design and analysis tools to perform design
and analysis work on spacecraft is required.
• Experience with requirements decomposition to subsystem
specifications and Interface Control Documents. Experience
with error budgets. Experience designing to Class 1 space
vehicle failure tolerance and reliability requirements.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, team
oriented, flexible, innovative and able to perform well in
an unstructured environment are all required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Tools (Project, Word,
Excel, PowerPoint) preferred

Security Clearance:
• Must be a US Citizen
• Selected applicant will be subject to a government
security investigation and must meet eligibility
requirements associated with access to classified
information
• A Secret clearance is required immediately. Ability to
obtain higher clearance desired.
